Reporting to the Provost, the Assistant Provost for Student Success handles a wide range of responsibilities of institutional importance on behalf of the Provost and is charged with the creation and oversight of a comprehensive and integrated program that supports student success. Toward that goal, the AP for Student Success will lead multiple initiatives of the President and Provost in the area of student success and retention.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Defines, plans, develops, manages and assesses all academic support provided to students and faculty.
  • Interfaces with faculty on strategy for the design and development of high-quality experiential learning in courses and programs.
  • Assist with annual budget for departmental activities and expenditures.
  • Develop, implement, coordinate, and monitor a comprehensive student retention plan for Academic Affairs to ensure that the University maximizes student success, persistence, and timely graduation.
  • Oversee and develop the elements of Academic Affairs that provide academic and professional support for UNTD students, including, Experiential Learning and Career Service, Advising, First-Year programming, Transfer Transition courses, and the Learning Commons.
  • Work collaboratively with the deans for the improvement of student learning.
  • Assist the Provost in executing the recommendations of the GPS committee in improving classroom teaching and student support.
  • Participate in the development of grant proposals pertaining to student success.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • 10 years of experience as a Director of a Student Support unit within Academic Affairs
  • Documented knowledge of student retention strategies and experience in implementing and assessing these
  • Documented ability to work well with faculty in promoting institutional goals
  • Documented ability to work with other staff units on campus
  • Positive attitude and initiative to problem solve independently within organization guidelines and policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently within a broad strategic framework and institutional priorities.
  • Evidence of excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Familiarity with best practices pertaining to increasing student retention and success.
  • The ability to advance new approaches to serving students through enhanced use of technology.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse student, staff, and faculty constituencies.
  • The personal attributes needed to relate well to students.
Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions

Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 15 pounds.
