Job Title Student Assistant III (Library Assistant), College of Law
Job Description

This position is for currently enrolled UNT, UNT Dallas, or UNT HSC students only making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree program to apply.

The student worker position reports to the Assistant Dean for Law Library. This position will be shelving and organizing books. Additional tasks will include providing administrative support, such creating labels and signs, related to preparing the library for the semester.

  • Receives, handles, and oversees the processing of library material.
  • Staffs library service desk and answers reference questions requiring knowledge of researching specialized sources as needed.
  • Handles sensitive questions and complaints in absence of Librarians.
  • Compiles statistics and prepares reports, using various databases and services.
  • Lends, sorts, and shelves books, periodicals, DVDs, and other library materials.
  • Answers patrons’ questions and/or refer them to the librarian.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community through outreach and collaboration.
  • Generates reports of overdue status and other reports as required by librarian.
  • Assists in maintaining library equipment such as adding paper and toner for the printer as needed.
  • Assists with filing of classified records.
  • Follows appropriate safety procedures and security measures related to work performed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean for Law Library.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled University student making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree program.

  • Must have excellent oral communication skills
  • Must have good organizational skills
  • Must be able work effectively as part of a team
  • General office experience including computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or other software
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and able to responsibly complete assigned tasks
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds
  • Good written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with customers
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and with the general public, and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully.
  • Ability to work with limited independence and initiative
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled student in the UNT Master of Science in Library Science program or UNT Dallas College of Law
Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions

Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 15 pounds.

Fall 2017 Schedule:
Tuesdays 7:00am- 12:00pm
Wednesdays 7:00am – 12:00pm
