Job Description

The University of North Texas System invites applications for the position of Director, System Academic Initiatives and Board Operations . The University of North Texas System (UNTS) is a dynamic, growing university system serving primarily the North Texas region. The System campuses include the University of North Texas (UNT) Denton campus, the state’s fourth largest university with more than 37,000 students; the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth, with 2,000 students; and the UNT at Dallas campus with 1,600 students.

The Director of System Academic Initiatives and Board Operations will be responsible for administering and coordinating key projects and management assignments in support of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Success and Board Secretary.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for research and policy development relating to UNT System Academic Affairs initiatives.
  • Developing tools and metrics to evaluate progress in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Coordinating with the Vice Chancellor to design, plan and implement academic initiatives that will promote and strengthen the UNT System and its component institutions.
  • Will interface often with the Board of Regents, serving as a point of contact, and draft communications to Board.
  • Ensure submission of quality material for Board of Regents meetings.
  • Serving as a liaison between the institutions and the Board.
  • Oversee Board meeting arrangements.
  • Additional duties, as directed or delegated by the Board Secretary.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Master’s Degree in related field and five years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of university policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Thorough knowledge of Texas rules and regulations related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Ability to plan and conceptualize and make sound business decisions.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong prioritization skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in Dallas – position is located downtown.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Ph.D. Degree in related field.
  • Seven years of professional related experience.
  • Previous experience in Higher Education highly preferred.
Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions

Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 15 pounds.
