Job Description

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Student Assistant in the Academic Advising Department. Student employees assigned to this classification work under general supervision. This means that definite work objectives are set for the employee but methods of performing the tasks are frequently left to the judgment of the employee with occasional instruction or advice provided by the supervisor. The frequency of review by the supervisor depends on the difficulty and complexity of the assignment or on the impact or result of the work performed. While the supervisor is again responsible for the general assignment of work, less control may be exercised over the flow for work and instructions given may be more general in nature. The employee is responsible for the results of the work. Jobs assigned to this level usually require some previous experience, education, or specialized skill.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain electronic and physical records of currently enrolled UNT Dallas students to support data reports
• Effectively manage security sensitive/confidential information.
• Provide general information regarding Services to current and prospective UNT Dallas Campus advisees
• Support UNT Dallas Academic Advising with basic office tasks
• Appointment Setting
• Creating and managing files/folders
• Answering Academic Advising telephone and return voicemails
• Making copies of necessary paperwork for day-to-day advising , orientations, and information sessions
• Deliver UNT Dallas documents accordingly
• Deliver miscellaneous items throughout the building(s), as needed
• Check in appointments for UNT Dallas (Advising & Academic Support)
• Shred confidential documents on a weekly basis
• Other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled University of North Texas at Dallas (UNTD) student making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree program. Applicants must possess the following:

• Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to create presentations, documents and spreadsheets.
• Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
• Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.
• Responsible, reliable and punctual.
• Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment.
• Must have good organizational skills and responsibly complete assigned tasks.
• Must be detail-oriented have the ability to multi-task
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with university procedures preferred.
• Experience with security sensitive information preferred.
• One-year experience in a customer service environment preferred

Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions

Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
Ability to sit in front of a computer for extended periods of time.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday between the hours of 12:00 pm – 3:00pm. Specific hours are set based on processing needs and student’s course schedule.
